1. At the end of September, Chris flew back home for the Ryder Cup in Hazeltine, MN! His dad was able to score some tickets and Chris was pretty pumped. They had tickets to Thursdays practice round and also Sunday's final round. It was an experience of a lifetime and they included my dad too! I'm so so happy he was able to go to this.
2. Both Max and Mya just finished up a season of running club! They loved it and I'm so proud of how well they did and how hard they worked. The 4th grade boys from our school got 3rd overall in the entire city (I think 54 elementary schools) and the 3rd grade girls got 10th. The school overall got 2nd which was amazing! I love that we have this option here for the kids...the perfect introduction to running!
Ivy was a good spectator at the races...I'm just glad I never lost her!
3. I got to go on a little getaway a few weekends ago with my sis-in-law Amanda and her mom Linda! They flew in on Wednesday Oct 5th, were able to watch the kids' cross country meet and then Thursday morning we headed to Banff for a girls trip. We hiked, went to the hot springs, ate good food, went to the spa pools at our hotel, shopped and relaxed! It was just what I needed and I feel very grateful that they included me on their mother/daughter weekend. To see a more detailed post about our trip, click on the Huinker family blog in my side bar.
4. We have already had 2 pretty decent snow falls in Edmonton. The first one was on Thanksgiving weekend (October 8-10) and then again the next weekend on the 14/15. The first one was kind of fun, because we knew it would most likely not stick around, but the second was caused some major havoc for us...which leads me to..
5. I left Friday October 14th for Minneapolis for a friend's wedding and Chris was all set to fly into Edmonton at 2:30..just in time to get the kids at school! But...his plane got all the way here and then got rerouted to Spokane, WA because of the snow and low visibility. Loooooooong story short, we have some pretty awesome people here who helped us out. Chris ended up getting in at midnight, so the kids stayed over at the neighbor's house. I had an awesome weekend celebrating with my happy house girls for Megan and Carlo's wedding.
The best part of facebook is when the time hop comes up and tells you what you were doing on that day in the previous years. On Megan's wedding day (at Winehaven Winery in Chisago City, MN) this pic came up of us from the same day the previous year on our trip to Oregon. So fun and I feel so lucky to get to share life with these girls.
6. The kids' school is fantastic...each kid gets around 12 field trips per year. Max spent an entire week at Fort Edmonton Park for Fort School. They got to pretend they were living in the 1880's- 1910 for the week. Max loved it despite the freezing cold temps! Then last week I went with Ivy to Safety City. It was one of the coolest things. They have a little city set up with stores, street lights/signs/crosswalks/railroad crossings, etc. The kids drive around little quad cars and have to follow the road rules. While half of them are driving, the other half are walking around as pedestrians trying to cross safely by following the 7 steps for crossing the road. Let's just say I'm glad Ivy is still 11 years from a drivers license! She spent more time on the left side of the road than the right! But it was sure fun for her.
7. Max has been playing flag football with an organization associated with the Edmonton Eskimos (the CFL team here) He loves it so far! The first few games in nice weather were the best..now it's not quite as much fun when dealing with snow!
8. Ivy was the star of the week at school! She loved being able to bring something to school each day to show her classmates. She is loving kindergarten so far and is doing way better with someone besides me teaching her! Her conferences are next week so I'm really anxious to hear about everything.
9. Mya is still really busy with gymnastics. She is enjoying it and learning all new routines for the next level. I'm struggling a bit with it...just seems like too much for an 8 year old. I guess we'll just hold on while she's still so happy doing it. She can't wait for competitions to start after Christmas. She is also in piano right now and really liking it so far. She's excited to move to the white keys this week!
10. Max is growing his hair out and it's driving me crazy!! It's really no big deal in the grand scheme of things, but it's such a mess in the morning and I feel like he needs to push it out of his face! Chris assures me it's just the stage and when it gets a little longer, it will be better:)
