Our first dancer!

Ivy had her first dance recital on May 25th. She was in a hip hop class all last school year and loved it. She danced to "Do you love me?" by the Contours for her recital and it was adorable. Next year she will do a tap/ballet class and a hip hop class as well.

Pretty sure getting the make-up on was her favorite part! Mya was thrilled to step in and help:)
She was exhausted after it was all over!

Regional gymnastics

This last year for gymnastics was a bit of a whirlwind. Mya competed level 4 in the fall, then competed in one level 5 meet to test out and then had 3 level 6 competitions. The final competition of the year was Regionals which ended up being in Cedar Rapids, so it was an easy decision. There were 7 state there and Mya ended up 1st all around in her age group! She won the beam and floor, was 8th on bars and 11th on the vault.  She was the only person from all around at this session and so it ended up being just Mya, her coach Kevin, Chris and me at the meet and it was very special! Here are a few pictures:

Jasper turns 1!

On May 28, our puppy Jasper turned 1! We made him a little puppy friendly cake and celebrated the fact that we made it through a year! Just kidding...it's  not that bad:) He has been a great dog and we couldn't imagine our lives without him. The kids absolutely adore him and miss him terribly when we are gone. Here's a few fun facts about our Jazzy.

1. He has more nicknames than any pet on this planet...they range from Fruppy, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Jazz, Sin (from Jasperson), and I'm sure there's more that I can't think of right now.

2. He loves to go on toad hunts at night...he finds them around our yard and just plays with them.

3. He loves to play with other dogs..his best friends are Lucy, Nala, Tucker and Splash.

4. He has started to stay out in our house when we're gone, but most of the time we come home and find him in the crate!

5. He loves to chew on things that are made of cloth...stuffed animals, blankets, socks, etc. No surgeries since last September and only one x-ray since then for a sock that was stuck.

6. He is a 2-poop per walk kind of dog. I think in all the years we had Chloe, she pooped twice on a walk once.

7. He hates the vet. Like growls at them and tries to climb in my lap kind of hate. He had a bad ear infection last spring and I think he was in a lot of pain when the vet was looking at it. Hoping that gets better or else I told Chris he would have to take him from now on!

8. He is a curly 45 pound dog. Both of his parents were 35 pounds, so he's a bit bigger than we thought he would be.

9. He sleeps with us up on the bed most of the time, but refuses to jump up on the bed. He gets two paws up and whines until one of us lifts him up. Even if we put treats up on the bed, he doesn't think he can jump up there!

10. He will fetch the ball 3 times and then loses interest...usually in a stick or a weed. It's comical actually. He'd rather eat the plastic chuck-it than chase the ball.

11. He doesn't bark too often...mostly when the doorbell rings or when another dog is walking by. He is definitely a protector dog...growls when he hears noises he doesn't like or sees a car parked out front.

12. He hates the water much to Chris's displeasure. He can swim, but is frantic when in the water and has no idea where the shore is. He fell off the dock at the cabin this summer and tried climbing up the dock instead of swimming to shore!

13. He is a great car rider...prefers the front like Chloe, but is happy to sit in the back with the kids. He has started to realize that when we get shoes on, we are going somewhere, so he goes by the door and wants to come with!

14. We love our puppy and are so glad we added him to our family!

State Swimming--2019

Back in March, we headed to Marshalltown,  Iowa for the YMCA state swimming championships. Ivy qualified in 3 individual events and 2 relays. Max qualified at the very last second in the 200 Free relay. Girls state was on Saturday March 2nd and the boys was on Max's birthday! My parents were driving back to Decorah from San Diego and were able to stop by for a surprise visit!

Each year there is a theme and this year it was movie theme. The girls were minions and the boys were superheros. The kids had fun with that and honestly they had more fun in the hotel with their friends than they did swimming! Neither of the kids had huge time drops or anything, but it was a great experience and hopefully next year they qualify again!

Swim, Bike, Run....

We have had a busy summer doing lots of different activities. Of course there's still plenty left to do on the summer fun list, but time is running out! It's fun to watch the kids try new things and have fun doing them! Max and Mya ran the elvelopet at Nordic Fest. It was Max's 4th year and I think Mya's 2nd year running. Max ran in 26:10 and Mya ran just over 30 minutes. Chris ran too and got 27 minutes. It's a great tradition that I hope continues every year!

On August 2nd, Max participated in his first triathlon in DeWitt, IA. We learned a ton and he ended up 3rd in the 12-15 year old boys division! It was a great experience and he hopes to do it next year and so do the girls. He started with a 150 yard swim, a 4.5 mile bike ride and a 1.5 mile run. The Fry kiddos did it as well and everyone did great! Being able to swim is a huge advantage to these races, so I hope Max continues to like them because I think he could be really good at it!

Then, on August 6th, we had the 3rd annual TMBR mountain bike kids race here in Dubuque. Mya had just come off of 3 days in a row of gymnastics camp and she was exhausted, but she was willing to do the race and I was so proud of her! Ivy did awesome as well for having not practiced on the trail the entire summer. Max did the trail twice to warm-up (and it was 85 degrees) but still managed to get 2nd in his age division despite being exhausted and hungry before it started! Ivy was 3rd in her age group and Mya was 2nd in hers.

Happy 11th birthday Mya!

Dear Mya,

Happy Birthday!! Only a few more years of you being sad that you're the last one of your friends to have a birthday. Soon you'll be thrilled that they will all be a  year older than you! On your actual birthday you had gymnastics and brought a cookie cake and Gatorade for everyone. That night, we had Jeff over for shepherds pie (your choice) and leftover cookie cake. For your birthday party, you invited 3 friends (Caitlyn, Katie and Kalissa) to go do an escape room and then they came over for dinner and cake!

You are still very into gymnastics. Dad and I love to pick you up and hear what you worked on or what skill you got that day. Usually we have to google it because we have no clue what you're doing! You competed last fall in level 4, then after Christmas you did one level 5 meet to test out and then continued with level 6. You ended up being regional champ at level 6 for your age group so I'd say it was a pretty successful season! Next spring you will compete level 7.

You decided you are done with soccer. I am going to miss watching you play because you are just so darn quick! In Dubuque we only have one option for someone your age and that is travel soccer year round with two practices per week, so I understand why you wanted to quit. With gymnastics 4 nights a week for a total of 15 hours, it just doesn't leave much extra time for other things. You have started to get more interested in tennis which of course I love! I'm hopeful you'll play a day a week this fall/winter now that you're not playing soccer.

You are very excited for 6th grade! I am glad you'll be getting out of school earlier to have some extra time to relax before gym. You are definitely ready for a change from elementary and I can't wait to see how it goes. I hope you get involved in activities and make lots of new friends. We will find out this week what house you're in.

You are still tiny, but tough. You weigh around 65 pounds and I'm not sure of your height. You hurt your wrist earlier this summer and we had x-rays and the doctor said you have lots of growing ahead of you! You're starting to be interested in clothes and fashion, you love make-up and are begging us for a phone/instagram/snapchat, etc.  You are ultra competitive and hate losing. You are a great eater, ice cream is definitely your favorite dessert, you are awesome with Ivy and have a strong bond with Max. Right now you say you want to be an interior designer and a gymnastics coach when you grow up. You would be awesome at both!

We sure love you My-my!!
