Last Sunday we decided to do the family free skate at the local rink. Chris dug out a pair of his old skates that happened to fit Mya and we set off. We got out on the ice and the opposite of what I thought would happen, happened. Max took off and was on his own doing laps around the rink. Mya was hanging onto Chris for dear life. Then after a couple of laps, we realized that the skates she was wearing were not giving her any support on her ankles, so we switched to some new ones and she was off! Either they make skates much better today than they did 30 years ago, or they lost some of their stiffness over the years.
Then, as soon as Mya got her confidence, Max lost it! He was miserable. I think part of it had to do with the ice being really wet so every time he fell, he got soaked. Also, there were tons of people there and it was hard to maneuver. At one point he told me he decided he wasn't going to play hockey. I told him he just needed to practice and he said he'd rather just practice basketball:) Hopefully he will give it another shot. He got roller blades for Christmas so I'm sure he'll be outside on those as soon as the longest.winter.of.my.life ends. Enjoy a few pics!

And Happy Birthday to Grandpa David! We hope you have a great day! Ivy sang to him this morning and has been singing happy birthday dear Grandpa all day long:)
