Update on Mya

Hard to believe Mya is halfway to 10! Time for an update. This last winter she participated in basketball for the first time. She had been asking me for a long time to try it, but in Edmonton it was too far from home at a crazy time of night to do it. It wasn't a huge commitment here..one practice per week for an hour and a game on Saturday morning. She had a great experience. Not sure if she'll play again, but it was worth trying for sure. She met some new girls and had great coaches.

She is loving 4th grade. One surprising thing is that she has taken to eating school lunch nearly everyday. I think once a month she takes lunch from home. As my pickiest eater, I am shocked! Max is my most adventurous eater and he takes lunch from home most often! She started the year hating math, but now it has grown to be her favorite subject. She has an excellent teacher and good friends. The pic is her reading while we wait for our food at a restaurant:)

Her skiing has taken off this year. Living so close to the ski hill here in Dubuque has been for all of us. We got a ski pass so we just get dressed at home, drive up there and in 5 minutes we are already heading down the hill! She's a daredevil (even though her first instinct is to not try anything new...once she does she loves it and wants to do it over and over again. Thank goodness her dad is so good at pushing her at right pace!)

She's also back in competitive gymnastics as of January 8th. Her friend from soccer Sophie tried out for the "team" and encouraged Mya to as well. We missed the try out, but they let her on anyway. She's enjoying it and seems to be doing well. Competition season for Iowa is in the fall--which will overlap with soccer---so we shall see what she chooses! Just the beginning of making some tough choices for her.

And last but not least...these two sisters are like fire and ice most days, but every once in awhile I catch them being nice to each other! Ivy especially likes Mya in the morning when she can talk her into carrying her to the kitchen from her bedroom when she's too tired!
