The summer that flew by!

I cannot believe the kids start school tomorrow! This summer went so fast. I think it was a combination of getting out of school on June 26th and being gone for much of the summer! It was so different than last summer...we were here the whole month of June with no school, went home for a shorter amount of time and had no visitors. As much as this summer flew by, I wouldn't change it. Looking back, we did everything we wanted to do even if it feels like a blur!

This last week has been completely booked with trying to fit everything in before school. Mya didn't have any gymnastics and we had no evening commitments so that helped. Here's a little run down of what we did.

1. Last weekend we went downtown and the kids swam in a fountain in Churchill Square. Edmonton doesn't really do outdoor pools, but they do fountains really well:) It was a little windy and cooler this day so our kids were pretty much the only people in the fountain! It was fun and we will definitely hit it up more next summer. After dipping in the fountain we went and found a restaurant downtown and quickly realized we were over our heads for fanciness. They were still very nice to us, but we could tell they wanted us out quickly when the food got there in 5 minutes flat:) The kids did great (I think they sensed our stress) and they even got a random compliment on our way out about how well they did.

2. lots of afternoons spent at the creek near our house. The kids discovered there were crayfish and other small creatures in this creek a couple weeks ago and have been going over there a lot ever since. They just love exploring and I basically sit and watch:)

3. Tuesdays is cheap movie day here and this week they had cheap movie day prices all week! We hit up Minions movie on Wednesday and hoped to get to one more, but ran out of time.

4. We went to the Launch Pad which is an indoor trampoline park with the neighbor kids. I had 7 kids by myself and it went totally fine. We even managed to get there on 50% off day (randomly) so we hit up subway afterwards with all of the money we saved!

5. The kids got new tennis racquets right before we went home in July and sadly, we hadn't played with them until this weekend! They always have fun at the courts when we go, but they never want to go. Hopefully that changes over the next few years, but for now I'm trying not to push. Ivy spent most of her time trapping ants under her racquet.

6. We intended to have an outdoor movie night, but ended up having to bring it inside because it got ridiculously cold here the end of the week! Tomorrow morning when we head out to school it's going to be a whopping 45 degrees. The kids still loved the movie up on the big screen sheet  in the basement!

7. We were hoping to get our refrigerator fixed (it went out while we were in Iowa...so yes like 5 weeks ago) but they were unsuccessful after 5 hours of labor on Friday. Hopefully in the next two weeks they can get the right part in and get it repaired. We bought a used one off Kijiji (Edmonton's version of Craig's List) and it has been in our garage. It's a bit very annoying to have to walk out to the garage every time you need something, but honestly we've gotten used to it now. I'll be so happy when it's back up and running.

There was probably more, but that is all I can remember for now! Look for a back to school post this week!
